Measuring the impact of Technology
on the formulation of Policies and Global Strategies

Analyze

We develop research projects that address urgent social challenges by leveraging advanced technology and thorough policy analysis. By collaborating with key stakeholders, we aim to create innovative solutions that drive equitable and sustainable policies for positive social impact

Collaborate

We collaborate with governments, universities, and businesses to develop inclusive policies that promote the responsible and effective use of technology, creating a lasting impact on technology governance and innovation for future generations.

Educate

We design programs and initiatives to raise awareness of how technology influences policy development and strategic decision-making. By fostering informed discussions, we help shape policies that drive innovation while addressing societal and ethical considerations.

Committed to cutting-edge research

Our goal is to provide in-depth analysis and practical solutions at the intersection of technology and public policy. We promote sustainable development through innovative research. Specifically, we focus our efforts on North America, where we collaborate with key stakeholders in the public and private sectors to drive positive societal change through technology-driven solutions.

AI and the US elections

Top Harvard researcher Bruce Schenier of the Berkman Klein Center analyzes  the ways artificial intelligence (AI) is being used in the 2024 US elections. He discusses the ways AI can be used to generate fake content and talks about the efforts to regulate AI in the US. Some important points are that there is no single agency in charge of regulating AI, and that current regulations are inadequate.

Americans’ Views of Technology

Most Americans think social media companies have too much influence in politics and censor political viewpoints. A report by the PEW Research Center founds that roughly two-thirds think social media has a mostly negative effect on the way things are going in the country today. Majorities in both political parties see social media’s impact on the country negatively, though Republicans remain more wary than Democrats.

EU and USA Digital Cooperation

A recent  article of the Atlantic Council discuses the future of US-EU digital collaboration. It discusses the current state of play and opportunities for cooperation. The EU has taken the lead in regulating digital technologies. The US is playing catch-up but there are signs of convergence. There are also risks of tension, especially over China and free speech. The outcome of the US election will be crucial for the future of transatlantic cooperation.

On Data Wars

The US and the EU have an ongoing conflict over data transfers: the most recent agreement, the DPF, is currently being challenged in court and there are also concerns about the CLOUD Act, a US law that allows US law enforcement to access data stored on foreign servers. A paper by the Atlantic Council discusses the legal battles that have taken place over the past few years and the efforts that both sides are making to address these concerns.

Methane Removing Technologies

An article of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine  emphasizes the need for research on new technologies to take methane out of the atmosphere. The technologies being considered are still under development, but if they work, they could help reduce global warming. The paper highlights that atmospheric methane removal is not a substitute for reducing methane emissions at the source, so it is essential to continue efforts to reduce methane emissions.

International AI Safety

A recent paper by the Brookings Institution discusses what the Bletchley Park process is and the goals. It also anaylyzes the challenges that governments and companies developing AI face to assess AI safety. The paper also highlits that the Bletchley Park process is still in its early stages, and it remains to be seen whether it will be successful in achieving its goals. Finally it discusses its impact to justify the development of more restrictive AI regulations.
